Marjorie Gaddie Byrd, 91, Duenweg, MO (formerly of the Kansas City area), died Monday, August 16, 1999, in Joplin, MO. A funeral mass will be 10 a.m. Friday at St. Philip's Episcopal Church, Joplin, with Rev. Daniel Erdman officiating; burial in Mt. Hope Cemetery. BEN COHEN
Ben Cohen, 76, Overland Park, KS, passed away Saturday, August 28, 1999, at Menorah Medical Center. Cryptside services will be 1 p.m. Monday, August 30, at the Garden of Faith Mausoleum, Mt. Moriah Cemetery. Kindly omit flowers, family suggests contributions to American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.
Mr. Cohen taught mathematics at East High School for 28 years, before retiring in 1988. He worked part-time at Venture while teaching, and also at Milgram's Market. He received his BA and MA in mathematics education at the University of Missouri - Kansas City in 1950. Mr. Cohen was a US Army veteran of World War II. Surviving are his wife, of over 50 years, Bertha "Bert" Cohen, of the home; son and daughter-in-law, Bruce J and Cindy Cohen, Leawood, KS. (Arrangements: Louis Memorial Chapel)
VIRLAND S HARRIS
Virland S "Buck" Harris, 64, Independence, MO, a former high school football coach, died July 05, 1988, at Research Medical Center.
Mr. Harris was a physical education instructor at East High School for 36 years and was head football coach there. He retired in 1986. He was a member of the Scottish Rite bodies, Ararat Shrine and the Tribe of Mic-O-Say. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was born in Harvey, IL and lived in this area since 1950.
Surivors include his wife, Betty Harris of the home, two sons, Stan Harris, Newport RI, and Scott Harris, Farmington MO
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Speaks Midtown Chapel; burial in Mound Grove Cemetery. Friends may call from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the chapel.
