Our voices now we raise, Over all the city wide, in melodies of praise. Ever foremost in the fray, May she always stand, Guarded loyally and well by our faithful band. So, let us fight, fight, fight for dear East High The name we all revere, (we all revere) And let us fight, fight, fight, for everyone, So give a rousing Rah!, Rah!, Rah!, We yell, we yell, For East High School, we love so dear, Then let the chorus swell, For her fair fame, we'll spread the name Of Dear EAST HIGH. |

Thank you for your quick response.
The BREAKFAST at the Big Biscuit is on (the second)Wednesday (of the month) and is men only. It started out with the class of '43 and has since grown to include some late 30's up to early 50's. It also is happy to include anyone who wishes to attend.
The LUNCHEON referenced in my e-mail is the second Tues-day of each month at Golden Corral at about 36th & Noland Road and is "coed". It is the last business in the strip that starts with an Osco (at 39th) on the south and on the west side of the street. All are welcome.
I appreciate that names and phone numbers are not men-tioned and wonder how you could possibly network all informa-tion discreetly.
I am very busy right now trying to alter my home to take in my 90-yr-old brother-in-law, but when this is complete and if you don't let me forget, I have Eastonians for 1929 and 1930 (I think). Come from a very large family and these belonged to one of my older brothers.
I also have some East Echos from 1941 to 1945. There are separate notebooks for each year listing all persons named in the Echos, which includes the particular Echo, the page and column number. This was a tremendous job and it would be nice if more people could enjoy them. The jokes in them are funny and innocent, a forgotten quality today.

They are the same design except for the color, only 1936 was bold enough

---Eight sticks of dynamite explode with a roar at the main entrance to East High School, ripping a crater in the concrete floor, smashing bronze doors and shattering windows. There is no clue to the perpetrator of the outrage".
Does anyone have information about this event and pictures that are posted on EBay?
Many updates have been added to the many pages of the East site, including faculty obits, students who are listed on Classmates.com from 1970 to 1989, and all email addresses that were posted in the "Guestbook". The Reagan memorial was moved to the Class Year 1981, and the local gas prices were moved to the bottom of the index page. If you do a search on Yahoo of "East Bears" or "East High School Kansas City" you will find this site. If you have information or pictures of EAST, the faculty, or students, we will post them as space allows.

It is all about 1953 today, thanks to Jerry Elliott Class of 1954

We still need the following Eastonians: 1948, 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952, and a better scan of 1954. Also a list of Seniors names for those years would be great!
The Reunion Page has been updated with the latest numbers of seniors and the number of known graduates, either on Classmates.com or who have contacted this site.
We have a contact on creating the "midi" for the School Song - "To East High School", I hope to live to see that day!
If your Class information is not listed, it is because we have no resources to make it happen, so don't be like the "school board", but be pro active....

The East High Graduates who were killed in WWII are posted on the 1945 page, and we have a new picture of the gang on the 1964 page.
Gas prices in the Metro will be posted on the main page near the top beginning today. This morning the price per gallon for regular unleaded was $1.72, this afternoon it is $1.88 per gallon. They just set whatever price they want.

Mike Miller also found and brought to me to scan, the sheet music to the school song "To East High School" which can be seen on the HOME page. You never know where or when information will be provided to the site.
Mike Miller also provided the obit for David W Smith, Class of 1965 who was killed in Vietnam in 1968.

So many things have been added I have forgot most of them. A total of 4,518 names are listed for Seniors, mostly in the Sixties, a few years in the Fourties, Seventies, and 1984, with more on the way. The 1969 and 1967 Seniors List, was typed from the 1968 and 1966 Eastonians. Two more Principals were added to the Faculty Page. The 1959 40th Reunion picture has been added. We have Alumni working of the Senior Lists for 1948-1952 and another person working on 1942. The 1966 Page has been updated, and most pages have a Table of Contents listed at the bottom of the page. The Guestbook has been updated and entries are not screened now so the updates are automatic. The only Reunion planned for this year so far, is 1984, check out their T-Shirt design. Site looks great and the counter indicates it is drawing lots of attention.
I left KC in 63 when I took off for the Navy. Didn’t plan to be gone more than 2 years but it ended up being 27. Spent 14 years in Japan and ended up in Norfolk. The kids were finishing school so it seemed to be a good place to settle. My wife and I have 3 children and 7 grandkids. My two daughters live nearby and my son who is in the Army Special Forces lives in North Carolina.
Where did you live during high school? I lived at 23rd and Drury and belonged to Troop 17 which met at Askew.

something is going wrong!
We have added the "Seniors List" for the following Years: 1970, 1968, 1966, 1965, 1963 and will start 1962 today. We do not have Yearbooks for: 1967, 1969, 1971 and above, or 1961 and below, so anybody that wants to provide that information, it would be greatly appreciated.
In the near future we will add "Zipcodes" to the Alumni that are on the Reunion List, as to give an idea of how far the Alumni is spread over the nation, or as we call it the "East Bear Nation". You will be able to see that addition first on the Class of 1966 site (I wonder why?).
In an article that appeared in the "Kansas City Star" Neighborhood News (Independence & Raytown), Wednesday, February 18, 2004, page 22, "Alumni keep in touch" by Fred Blocher, A group of men (Jim Ralls 1943, Ed Nelson 1943, Herman Mohr 1939, and Jack Fitzgerald 1942) get together once a month at the Big Biscuit Restaurant, US Hwy 40 and Lee's Summit Road. If you know these gentlemen have them contact us, so we can get their Classes listed at this site.

Friday, February 27, 2004, Dear eastbears.org,
I’m writing in response to your recent email regarding research on East High School.
Currently the library is closed due to remodeling, but we look forward to your visit when we re-open (tentatively in mid-April). For East High School we have the following yearbooks: 1927-1964, 1966-1970, 1972, 1975-1978, 1985-1989, 1995-1996. We also have some other materials pertaining to East, cited here:

When we re-open, these materials will be available on the 5th Floor of the Downtown Library at 14 W. 10th St. (intersection of 10th and Baltimore).
I hope this information helps, and have a happy Spring!

"I used to work for Harvester
I used to use my hands
I used to make the tractors and the
combines that plowed and harvested this great land
Now I see my handiwork on the block
everywhere I turn
And I see the clouds cross the weathered faces
and I watch the harvest burn
I quit the plant in '57
Had some time for farmin' then
Banks back then was lendin' money
The banker was the farmer's friend
And I've seen dog days and dusty days;
Late spring snow and early fall sleet;
I've held the leather reins in my hands
and I've felt the soft ground under my feet
Between the hot, dry weather and the taxes
and the Cold War it's been hard to make ends meet
But I always kept the clothes on out backs;
I always put the shoes on our feet
My grandson, he comes home from college
He says, "We get the government we deserve."
My son-in-law just shakes his head and says,
"That little punk, he never had to serve."
And I sit here in the shadow of the suburbs
and look out across these empty fields
I sit here in earshot of the bypass
and all night I listen to the rushin' of the wheels
The big boys, they all got computers:
got incorporated, too
Me, I just know how to raise things
That was all I ever knew
Now, it all comes down to numbers
Now I'm glad that I have quit
Folks these days just don't do nothin'
simply for the love of it
I went into town of the Fourth of July
Watched 'em parade past the Union Jack
Watched 'em break out the brass and beat on the drum
One step forward and two steps back
And I saw a sign on Easy Street,
said "Be Prepared to Stop."
Pray for the Independent , little man
I don't see next year's crop
And I sit here on the back porch in the twilight
And I hear the crickets hum
I sit and watch the lightning in the distance
but the showers never come
I sit here and listen to the wind blow
I sit here and rub my hands
I sit here and listen to the clock strike,
and I wonder when I'll see my companion again"
